Did you know that your entire life could change if you did certain things differently? Are you aware that you could increase your life expectancy by incorporating a few habits to your daily life? Many people think life expectancy is solely determined by genetics, but this is wrong. Your genetic makeup has little to do with how long you live; rather, your life expectancy is largely determined by the positive and healthy lifestyle decisions you make.
Here are five tips to help you age well and increase life expectancy:
Drink More Water:

Did you have a cup of water this morning? No? Then go have one! The benefits of water to the human body cannot be overemphasised, as keeping hydrated is important for good health and well-being. Studies have shown that adult humans are 60% water, and our blood is 90% water; thus, drinking enough water should be at the top of your list of priorities. Water has a lot of health benefits ranging from the oxygenation of the body, to aiding weight loss, therefore leading to an increase in your life expectancy.
Engage in Physical Activities:

It is common knowledge that engaging in physical activities like exercise can keep you healthy and add more years to your life. However, it is said that a few people know how to keep themselves physically active. Research has shown that as few as 15 minutes of exercise or engaging in any physical activity per day may help you achieve health benefits, which includes an additional 3 years of life. Amazing right? Studies have also shown that exercising more than 150 minutes per week is best, but even small tasks like taking strolls every day can help extend your longevity.
Eat Healthy–More Plant Foods:

Many people think eating healthy is “eating boring,” but they are wrong. There are lots of ways to spice up plant meals, not to talk about the many health benefits associated with eating them. Eating a wide variety of plant foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains, may reduce the risk of diseases and increase your lifespan. Studies have linked a plant-based diet or meal to a reduced risk of cancer, as well as a lower risk of premature death, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, depression and brain damage. In essence, consuming plenty of plant foods helps you live longer and lowers your risk of common diseases and helps regulate body fat.
Eliminate Stress and Anxiety:
Stress and anxiety have been known to shorten life expectancy and make people age faster than they should. It has also linked stress to feeling irritable and not sleeping well. Research has shown that women suffering from stress or anxiety are two times more likely to die from heart disease, stroke or lung cancer. Likewise, the risk of premature death is three times higher for anxious or stressed men, compared to their more relaxed counterparts. However, meditation and optimism can help in eliminating stress and anxiety. By meditating, you calm your body and train your mind to process things positively. Also, maintaining an optimistic outlook on life can be beneficial in extending your lifespan.
Maintain A Healthy Social Network:

Having good people around you can indeed be a breath of fresh air. According to research, good friends and great support systems can help you live up to 50% longer. A strong social circle might help you react negatively to stress, thus further explaining the positive effect on your lifespan.

Make more time for friends and family, and make genuine efforts to improve your communication with them because the more connected with positivity you are, the better your overall health.
In conclusion, although a long lifespan may seem out of your control, following healthy routines, some of which have been discussed above, can help you age well and live a long life. When these habits become your lifestyle, you put yourself on the path to a long and healthy life.
